Participants in this unique Vacation Bible School will build empathy by exploring perspectives and aspects of identity that are unique, universal, seen and unseen. Students (and volunteers!) will build language and understanding about social inequality and racism. Learn about concepts of perspective, justice, charity and mercy. Understand the importance of media representation for others and ourselves. Build awareness of who we share our world with and how we are connected. Participants will develop an understanding of what it means to be an Ally, build community connections and deepen our faith by tying our actions and words to our values and beliefs.
CommUNITY Allies VBS can be done in person or remotely. It is targeted for kids ages kindergarten through 6th grade and has activities that reach both younger and older kids. The bonus of this VBS is that the whole community is learning about justice together!
Recommendations on training: The Justice and Faith Collective creates curriculum offerings that you can lead in your context. The more you and your fellow leaders invest in understanding race, structural racism, and power, the more effective you will be in leading this work in your community. We strongly urge you to purchase either the 90-minute Intro to Antiracist Teaching class (great for all who will be co-leading content) or to purchase the 6-week Foundations for Antiracism (recommended for leaders in a community that is going to do this work). If you would like The Justice and Faith Collective to offer training for your context, please let us know. Addressing racism challenges the status quo. Jesus also challenged the status quo. Though challenging norms is not easy, it is the path to life and liberation for all. Investing in this learning will help prepare you for the road ahead. “The truth is, no one of us can be free until everybody is free” (Maya Angelou).
